What does an engineering technologist do?
There are several types of engineering technologists working in manufacturing. An industrial engineering technician assists industrial engineers in creating systems that integrate workers, machines, materials, information, and energy to make a product or provide a service. A mechanical engineering technician helps mechanical engineers design, develop, test, and manufacture mechanical devices. These careers usually require an associates degree and on-the-job training.

What do I need to get an engineering technologist job?
HCC – This AAS program prepares students for employment in a variety of industries that use technicians or technology specialists to support engineering staff. Upon graduation, students will be able to use these skills to organize, and carry out engineering technology projects.
DTCC – This AAS program focuses on mechanical engineering technology.
With additional OJT the engineering technician can advance into a Manufacturing Engineering Technologist role, to develop tools, implement designs, and integrate machinery, equipment, or computer technologies to ensure effective manufacturing processes.
